Black Writers Collective

The Novelists' Spot Critique Tribe

What it is

Black Writers Collective’s “The Novelist’s Spot” is an online writers’ group for writers of long fiction who need feedback on novels and novellas in progress. It is a reciprocal tribe, meaning if you submit material for others to critique, you are required to critique their works in return. Being part of this critique tribe will help you with your own writing and become a stronger writer in the process.

If you would like to have your material critiqued, but do not want to critique others, consult our editors’ directory to hire a freelance professional who offers that service.

Blackwriters-CritiqueGroupSession

How it works

The group meets monthly to critique 2-3 members’ projects per session. Members are not required to submit every time but are fully expected to critique every time. Materials are submitted within five days after each meeting to be critiqued during the next session. Members must participate in two group critiques prior to submitting material of their own for critique.

“You don’t start out writing good stuff. You start out writing crap and thinking it’s good stuff, and then gradually you get better at it. That’s why I say one of the most valuable traits is persistence.”
